Rimini celebrates several Fellini anniversaries in 2024: La strada, Giulietta Masina, Marcello Mastroianni

The year 2024 will also be a year of Fellini anniversaries. Rimini is preparing to celebrate the seventieth anniversary of La strada, the first Oscar, Fellini’s worldwide consecration, and the centenary of the birth of Mastroianni, to whom Fellini assigned his most autobiographical characters-Marcello from La Dolce Vita, Guido from 8½, Snaporaz from City of Women, Pippo from Ginger and Fred. The Fellini Museum will dedicate a photographic exhibition to him, and a conference to be held in the fall will look at the relationship between some of the directors and their doubles: Martin Scorsese / Robert De Niro, Paolo Sorrentino / Toni Servillo, François Truffaut/ Jean-Pierre Léaud, John Ford / John Wayne, Tim Burton / Johnny Depp, to name but a few of the most famous partnerships in film history.

After the publication of the volume Amarcord raccontato dalla stampa dell’epoca, edited by Giuseppe Ricci, which will be presented in the coming weeks, it will be the turn of La strada raccontata dalla stampa dell’epoca, scheduled after the summer. The project conducted with Sapienza University of Rome to map and acquire radio scripts written by Fellini between 1940 and 1943 is also part of this work to recover sources.

The two exhibitions at the Palazzo del Fulgor(Fellini/Trubbiani and Intimate Fellini: drawings and words) will remain on display until the end of January, and a third one will soon be added with a selection of the master’s sketchbook collection that belonged to Liliana Betti, his historical collaborator, and since last year deposited by the Ministry of Culture precisely at the Fellini Museum. Also at the Fulgor Palace, the programming of Fellini’s films will continue, every Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Cinemino: on January 16 it will be the turn of Clowns, on January 23 of Juliet of the Spirits (admission to the Fulgor Palace for those under 25 is free).

Many other Fellini events will be scheduled throughout the year.

On the occasion of the anniversary of Fellini’s birth, the Fellini Museum, as well as the City Museum and the Surgeon’s Domus, will be open for free admission on Saturday, Jan. 20, while on Monday, Jan. 29, in collaboration with the Fulgor cinema, Anselma Dell’Olio will present her Enigma Rol, the documentary on the Turin antiquarian who became one of Fellini’s main advisers.
