Super Walls, the street art biennial with 40 artists from across Europe, returns

Super Walls, the Biennale of street art in and around Padua, is back. Forty artists from Europe will confront the theme of rebirth.

Super Walls, the Biennale of street art in and around Padua, returns from June 5 to 2021.

Conceived by gallery owner Carlo Silvetrin and art critic Dominique Stella, promoted by the Municipality of Padua, the Municipality of Abano Terme and the CIMI Cultural Association, and realized with the support of Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo, in collaboration with InfoCamere, the Province of Padua, the University of Padua and the Municipalities of Limena and Mestrino, the event aims to celebrate street art as a tool for enhancing the urban landscape. The past edition of 2019, the first one, was a great success and saw the realization of twenty impressive works that give life to an open-air art gallery.

Forty street artists from five European countries will participate in this 2021 edition, who will confront the theme of rebirth: at their disposal thanks to private and institutional entities, recreational facilities and city hospitals will be thirty-five surfaces distributed in eight municipalities, namely Abano Terme, Padua, Albignasego, Limena, Mestrino, Tombelle di Saonara, Sarmeola di Rubano and Veggiano.

In addition to the Padua-based Alessio-B, Any, Axe, Boogie.EAD, Joys, Orion, Peeta, Roulè, Tony Gallo, Yama and Zero Mentale, a number of well-known names from the international scene will be oinvolved in the event, including the Dutch JDL and Nina Valkhoff, the Spanish Medianeras, Nuriatoll, Doa Oa, Spok and the Alegrí a del Prado, France’s Nerone, Daco, Anna Conda, David Karsenty and the La Crémerie collective, and Germany’s Julia Benz. Also, Alessandra Carloni, Bolo, Evyrein, Gabriele Bonato, Mrfijodor, Paolo Psiko, Shife and Ra.Men.

“Street art was born as an expression out of the ordinary, it goes beyond the dominant thinking that identifies art only when locked up in galleries, museums or large exhibitions,” said the President of the Province of Padua, Fabio Bui. "Undoubtedly, however, if we talk about street art, we are talking about art and it should be considered by all public administrations, and also by theart system, as a resource, an enrichment: street art, in fact, possesses an immediate expressive value, is an important form of communication and represents a specific historical era, ours. It is good to remember that filling a public space with one’s own works is a very great responsibility: the street artist transforms the urban space into a place of discussion because it arouses emotions, conveys thoughts and influences minds since the real recipients of street art, are not the physical places but the citizens."
