Two important works by Giacomo Balla return to the Roberto Casamonti Collection on display.

As part of the initiative "The Return of the 20th Century Masters," two important works by Giacomo Balla are returning to the Roberto Casamonti Collection's itinerary.

As part of the initiative The Return of the 20th Century Masters, which has been underway since early 2025, a number of masterpieces by the great artists belonging to its first section From the Beginning of the 20th Century to the 1960s are reintroduced into the exhibition itinerary of the Roberto Casamonti Collection, housed on the piano nobile of Palazzo Bartolini Salimbeni in Florence. Selected and recovered from storage, the chosen works thus return to public view, while establishing a dynamic dialogue with the second section of the collection, currently on view, which brings together works created from the 1960s to the early 21st century.

From Tuesday, January 13 to Saturday, March 7, 2026, visitors will be able to view two important works by Giacomo Balla: Great Black Evening at the Salone Margherita. Black Evening (ca. 1903-04) and Idealfiamma (1929). The two paintings represent different but central moments in Balla’s artistic research: the former linked to his Divisionist training, while the latter fully belonging to the Futurist season, sealed by the signature “Futurballa.”

The Roberto Casamonti Collection has been open to the public since 2018, at the behest of gallery owner Roberto Casamonti, a leading figure in the international art scene, and includes masterpieces not only from the Italian but also the international scene; it is organized in two major sections: the first collects works by artists active from the early 20th century to the early 1960s, while the second extends to the contemporary. Artists currently on display range from Boetti to Schifano, Miró to Basquiat, Warhol to Christo.
