Unprecedented evening tour of the Stupinigi Hunting Lodge

OnSaturday, December 11, the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi will be extraordinarily open to the public in the evening hours, from 7 to 11 p.m. (last entrance at 10:30 p.m.). In fact, an unprecedented evening tour, titled A Winter Evening at Court, will be held in the former Savoy Residence for Hunting and Festivities built starting in 1729 and designed by Filippo Juvarra. The Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi is considered one of Turin’s monumental jewels. Today it is owned by the Fondazione Ordine Mauriziano, a government agency dedicated to its preservation and enhancement. Inside it features original furnishings, paintings, and masterpieces of cabinet making. A testament to the spirit of the late Juvarra and Benedetto Alfieri, it is reflected in the international rococo of European royal residences.

It is a place of loisir for hunting in Savoy court life, a sumptuous and refined residence favored by the Savoy for parties and weddings during the 18th and 19th centuries, and Napoleon’s chosen residence in the early 19th century. In the early 20th century it was chosen as the residence of Queen Margaret, and since 1919 it has also been home to the Museum of Furniture.

The event, organized in conjunction with Christmas is Royal, will include two special tours at 8:15 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. with a series of stories and anecdotes that will run from the first to the last room. The tour route, illuminated by the sparkling lighted chandeliers, will be enlivened by diffuse Christmas music.
