A century of women's change through National Geographic's snapshots

Santa Maria della Vita in Bologna will host the exhibition Women: a century of change.

TheOratory of Santa Maria della Vita in Bologna will host the exhibition Women: a century of change from February 15 to May 17, 2020. The exhibition is organized by National Geographic, in collaboration with Genus Bononiae. Musei nella città and Fondazione Carisbo, and is intended to be a look at the condition of women through the shots of the great reporters of the National Geographic Society.

The exhibition will be divided into six sections (Beauty, Joy, Love, Wisdom, Strength, Hope) and will cover a century of women’s history on all continents, from different perspectives and addressing various issues. Each image aims to create a portrait of some aspect of women’s existence, while also showing how the representation of women has evolved over time.

One hundred years after women were granted the right to vote in the United States, the exhibition aims to reflect on women’s past, present and future.

The exhibition will also feature the Portraits of Power section, where intimate portraits and biographies of an iconic group of activists, politicians, scientists, and celebrities interviewed by National Geographic will be featured, on the occasion of the magazine’s special November 2019 issue, published at the time of the first woman at the helm of the National, Susan Goldberg: these include Nancy Pelosi, Oprah Winfrey, and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

Women: a century of change is edited by Marco Cattaneo.
