A photo exhibition in Ravenna on the mosaics of Naples' Stations of Art

The Palazzo Rasponi 2 Exhibition Space in Ravenna is hosting a photography exhibition on the mosaics of the Stations of Art in Naples from October 14, 2023 to January 14, 2024.

From Oct. 14, 2023 to Jan. 14, 2024, the Palazzo Rasponi 2 Exhibition Space in Ravenna is hosting the photographic exhibition Tesserae for Public Art. The Mosaics of Naples Art Stations, curated by Giovanna Cassese and Maria Corbi and presented on the occasion of the eighth edition of the Contemporary Mosaic Biennial by the RavennaAcademy of Fine Arts in collaboration with theNaples Academy of Fine Arts and ANM Azienda Napoletana Mobilità. The photos were taken by Fabio Donato and Oreste Lanzetta, professors of the School of Photography of the Naples Academy, with the scientific curatorship of art historians Giovanna Cassese, Scientific Coordinator for the Naples Academy of the Convention with ANM, and Maria Corbi, head of the ANM artistic heritage, with the intention of highlighting the importance of the language of mosaic in relation topublic art and to disseminate the knowledge of the artistic heritage of the Stations of Art nationally and internationally. The Stations of Art, owned by the City of Naples and managed by ANM, with more than two hundred and fifty site-specific works by contemporary artists, constitute one of the largest public art interventions in the international sphere in the last two decades.

In this large public collection, not only does mosaic no longer appear to be relegated to a decorative function and a marginal role compared to other installations, but on the contrary it proves to be one of the best solutions in terms of technique and language in public spaces of mass transportation.

“The Ravenna Academy of Fine Arts, from this year statewide,” says Director Paola Babini, “is particularly honored to present this exhibition in the city, on the occasion of the Contemporary Mosaic Biennial 2023. This photographic exhibition, curated by the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples and ANM Azienda Napoletana Mobilità, is fully in line with our institutional goals. Firstly, because of the presence of the address in Visual Arts-Mosaic of our Three-year and Two-year courses, which characterizes it as the only Italian Academy, and secondly, to publicize the very high quality of the mosaics of the Naples subway, which have made the Toledo station, designed by the Catalan architect Oscar Tusquets Blanca, elected the most beautiful subway station in the world.”

The photo exhibition can be visited Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. with free admission.
