Architecture, art and AI: "Space of the Possible" exhibition in Mestre.

From Sept. 18 to Nov. 30, 2025, the Mestre International Sculpture Park will host the traveling exhibition "Space of the Possible," a project that brings architecture, creativity, artificial intelligence and community into dialogue through installations and interactive works.

From Sept. 18 to Nov. 30, 2025, the International Sculpture Park in Mestre will host Spazio del Possibile, an exhibition curated by Francesca Zaccarelli that interweaves architecture, art and technology. The exhibition, promoted by Banca Ifis in collaboration with theOrder of Architects Planners, Landscapers and Conservators of Rome and province, arrives in Veneto after stopping in Rome, at the House of Architecture and the “La Nuvola” convention center. The official vernissage is scheduled for Sept. 18 at 5 p.m., with the artists involved in attendance. The project is divided into three separate exhibition spaces that address the theme of architecture as a ground for experimentation and investigation, focusing on the relationship between man, nature and technology. The exhibition intends to configure itself as an open laboratory, in which different languages dialogue with each other and urge the visitor to become an active part of the journey.

“We are pleased,” says Ernesto Fürstenberg Fassio, President of Banca Ifis, “to open the doors of the International Sculpture Park to welcome Spazio del Possibile, a project that stimulates a reflection on architecture as a tool for experimentation and enhancement of Made in Italy. Two years after its foundation, the Banca Ifis Park opens its doors for the first time to an external exhibition, confirming its role as a participatory space dedicated to reflection and dialogue on art and culture. This is the road that, through Ifis art, we have traced since the beginning of the project and we want to continue along with the aim of building increasingly strong links between the public and private sectors, and making our country’s artistic and cultural heritage accessible to the community.”

The first section, designed as a “box,” is dedicated tohuman intelligence. Here a selection of patents filed by Italian architects and architects is offered, testifying to the role of invention in design practice and the profession. In this context, the comparison with artificial intelligence, represented as a system constrained by predictive models, takes shape, as opposed to the creative, imaginative and innovative capacity that remains the prerogative of the human being. Antonio Barbieri ’s work Deodomena Tropos finds its place within this space: the sculpture translates the relationship between man and machine into totemic forms that arise from digital processes and data processing, making tangible a complex dynamic that marks the present and projects toward future scenarios.

At the center of the exhibit is the section entitled Collective Intelligence. Arranged in this area are fifty Sampietroni patented by artist Marco Duranti. These are elements that function as seats, placed without a pre-established arrangement. The absence of a defined direction leaves visitors free to choose their own position. The result is an ever-changing whole, determined by individual choices and interactions among those present. The work thus takes on the meaning of shared experience, capable of representing the possibility of a community to generate outcomes that exceed the sum of individual contributions.

A second “box,” named Synthetic Future, follows. Inside it is placed the installation The Golden Branch by Alessandro Signoretti. The work, concealed from view from the outside, is presented as a portal with which the public is invited to interact. In this case, artificial intelligence does not simply return answers, but poses questions, transforming the viewer into an active subject in the production of meaning. The installation references myth and vision, casting the gaze toward scenarios in which technology becomes an element of confrontation and openness, rather than a mere functional tool.

The entire exhibition is conceived as a space for multidisciplinary confrontation, in which creativity, sustainability and technological research are intertwined. The Banca Ifis International Sculpture Park, which usually hosts permanent outdoor works, thus becomes a place where artistic and architectural experience meet, offering new possibilities for reflection. The initiative is also part of the bank’s commitment to supporting cultural and social projects related to innovation and inclusion.

To mark the opening of the exhibition, a panel discussion entitled Beauty, Creativity and Artificial Intelligence: Italy Imagining the Future will be held on September 18. The meeting will be attended by institutional figures, curators and artists. Planned speakers include Federico Mollicone, chairman of the Culture, Science and Education Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, and Maria Piccarreta, director of Service III of the Contemporary Creativity General Directorate of the Ministry of Culture. Also present will be Paolo Anzuini, creator of the exhibition project, Francesca Zaccarelli, curator of the exhibition, and artists Antonio Barbieri andAlessandroSignoretti. The panel discussion is part of the Study Days promoted by Banca Ifis together with the Ministry of Culture’s General Directorate for Contemporary Creativity, a cycle of meetings dedicated to exploring the relationship between artistic research, technological innovation and social perspectives.
