Caravaggio exhibition in Rome extended until July 20

Following its great success, the Caravaggio 2025 exhibition at the National Galleries of Ancient Art at Palazzo Barberini in Rome has been extended until July 20, 2025.

Following the great success achieved-with more than 400,000 visitors registered so far-and the interest aroused nationally and internationally, the National Galleries of Ancient Art announce the extension of the CARAVAGGIO 2025 exhibition set up at Palazzo Barberini in Rome, which will remain exceptionally open until July 20, 2025. Curated by Francesca Cappelletti, Maria Cristina Terzaghi and Thomas Clement Salomon, the exhibition will continue to welcome visitors from around the world for another two weeks, maintaining its current hours: Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Thursday through Sunday with extended opening hours until midnight. The exhibition will be closed on Wednesday, July 9.

As of July 7, the exhibition will remain unchanged in content and structure, except for the painting The Musicians, which will return to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on July 9, due to previously agreed commitments. The remaining 23 masterpieces, on loan from major museum institutions and private collections, both Italian and international, will instead remain on view until July 20. It will also still be possible to visit the Casino Boncompagni Ludovisi with a special ticket linked to the exhibition, offering a unique opportunity to delve into Caravaggio’s revolutionary pictorial vision.

This extension of the exhibition responds to the large number of visitors and continued demand recorded in the previous months, thus giving even more people the opportunity to come into contact with the expressive power and modernity of Caravaggio’s language.

The presale of tickets for the new dates will be active from Monday, June 30.

CARAVAGGIO 2025 is a project of the National Galleries of Ancient Art, carried out in collaboration with the Galleria Borghese, with the support of the Ministry of Culture’s General Directorate for Museums, and the support of Main Partner Intesa Sanpaolo. Coopculture is in charge of public services, while Marsilio Arte was responsible for the publication of the catalog. Urban Vision is media partner and Dimensione Suono Soft is radio partner of the event.

Heartfelt thanks go to all the institutions and collections, public and private - many of which have chosen to remain anonymous - that have granted the loans and approved their extension: Detroit Institute of Art (USA), Kimbell Art Museum (USA), Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (USA), Wadsworth Atheneum of Art (USA), Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza (Spain), National Gallery of Ireland (Ireland), Royal Collection Trust (UK), Galleria Borghese, Gallerie d’Italia in Naples, Gallerie degli Uffizi - Palazzo Pitti, Musei Capitolini, Pinacoteca di Brera, and the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte.
