Colorful animals peacefully invade San Benedetto del Tronto

The city of San Benedetto del Tronto will be invaded by thirty colorful animals for Cracking Art's signature public art project.

A pink snail, a red elephant, two green rabbits-these are just some of the colorful animals that will invade the city of San Benedetto del Tronto.

A public art project, Cracking Art en plein air, curated by Stefano Papetti, Elisa Mori and Giorgia Berardinelli and presented by the Cultural Association Verticale d’Arte in collaboration with the Municipality of San Benedetto del Tronto, intends to evoke through the peaceful animals of the Cracking Art collective such feelings as trust in each other and the protection of the community, as well as all typical landscape, nature and art.

For over twenty-five years, Cracking Art has been creating plastic animals to bring the public closer to art, carrying out the motto “Art regenerates Art.” The beauty and power of art can lead to the preservation of the environment and the rich historical and artistic heritage.

For about four months, from July 18 to November 2, 2020, San Benedetto del Tronto will be invaded, peacefully and silently, by some 30 colorful animals made of regenerated plastic: elephants, meerkats, dogs, cats, rabbits and a snail. Cracking Art’s creatures will reappropriate green areas, restoring the deep connection between humans and wildlife. An elephant will be placed in the Old Incasato with its tower; two large snails, symbols of Cracking Art’s production and a metaphor for listening, dwelling and digital communication, will be located in Matteotti Square and on the Porto d’Ascoli waterfront; the balcony of the Palazzina Azzurra will host cats, while two large rabbits will find space in the “Nuttate de Lune” garden.

The initiative aims to present an event to promote contemporary art in a cultural restart and to bring contemporary art languages into dialogue with places steeped in history or linked to modernity.
