Correggio returns home: here's the exhibition on St. Agatha in the great painter's hometown


From Sept. 22, 2018 to March 17, 2019, The Correggio Museum is dedicating an exhibition to Antonio Allegri's St. Agatha, a rediscovered masterpiece.

After being restored, restudied and subsequently the focus of an exhibition in Senigallia, the St. Agatha painted by Correggio will be on display from Sept. 22, 2018 to March 17, 2019 at the Il Correggio Museum.

During the exhibition, titled"The Rediscovered Correggio," the small canvas that the artist completed in his maturity will be presented to the public.
It is a work that was donated by an English nobleman to Dr. Angelo Zotti of Senigallia, depicting a maiden that recently Dario Fo likened to Jeronima, Correggio’s bride, because of the strong similarity in features.

The event, which will be presented in the “A. Recordati” conference room of Correggio ’s Palazzo dei Principi on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, at 4:30 p.m., will be accompanied by meetings and appointments.

Ilenia Malavasi, mayor of Correggio, said that “the exhibition of St. Agatha is a very significant cultural event for our city, because it is thanks to Antonio Allegri that the name of Correggio is famous all over the world. The collaboration with the ”Amici del Correggio“ association is part of a path, undertaken by the city administration, that intends to bring together and have all the scholars who in various capacities are involved in the study and enhancement of Allegri’s work, starting with the Il Correggio Foundation, the Amici del Correggio association and our Civic Museum.”

The exhibition will be held thanks to the collaboration between the city administration and the association"Amici del Correggio and Il Correggio Civic Museum."
