Drawings on paper by Picasso on display in Milan

On display at the Tega Gallery in Milan are Picasso's papers, all dedicated to the theme of the nude and the portrait.

An exhibition showcasing a series of papers devoted to the theme of the nude and the portrait by Pablo Picasso is underway at Galleria Tega in Milan.

Open until May 25, the exhibition of drawings on paper follows Picasso’s journey from the season of the Cubist avant-garde, passes through the moment of reflection on the portents of classicism in the 1920s and then touches on the moments closest close to the Surrealism of the 1930s and finally arriving at the expressions of the postwar period, when Picasso, by now risen to an authentic living legend of contemporary painting, moves between the languages of the present and the past with a freedom inimitable as much for his contemporaries as for his heirs.

Among the works in the exhibition, we find the magnificent “Guitare” of 1920, a gouache on paper from the Ladislas Szecsi collection and exhibited at the San Francisco MoMA as early as 1938, the year after “Guernica” was made ; the refined charcoal Gueridon, also of 1920, also belonging to a prestigious collection such as Berggruen’s; “La Negrita,” a paper of important dimensions (36 x 45 cm) and still cubist in approach, made in 1914, and "Nu, homme à la pipe et Amour," from 1969, ink on paper that encapsulates some of the author’s favorite themes of the Demoiselles d’Avignon, the nude and the relationship between the painter and the model, which in this case manifests itself in the form of allegory. It is, moreover, also a significant work because it is among the later works of the master, who would disappear in Mougins in 1973. The work belonged to Kahnweiler, the dealer who contributed decisively to the establishment of Cubism and its main representative.

The exhibition is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
