Foligno, at Palazzo Trinci comes I love Lego: installations and paintings made with the famous bricks

From December 7, 2022 to June 4, 2023, Palazzo Trinci in Foligno will host the exhibition 'I Love Lego.' In the halls, dioramas built entirely with the bricks that have driven generations of children and fans of the Lego world crazy.

Imaginative cities, historical reconstructions, unexplored continents and entire villages inhabited by the highly popular minifigures that have always been present in the collective imagination of the general public. Legomania comes to Foligno with I LOVE LEGO, an exhibition scheduled at Palazzo Trinci from December 7, 2022 to June 4, 2023. Designed for all families and fans of all ages of the world’s most famous building modules. On display will be 7 immense dioramas, highly detailed reproductions of fantastic worlds in reduced scale built through the passion and ingenuity of some of the world’s greatest enthusiasts and builders: from Caribbean settings where pirates run amok to scenes from World War II; from reproductions of naturalistic areas to glimpses of the streets of the historic center with neighborhoods, train stations and streets; from the conquest of space on lunar soil to the reproduction of medieval Rome; settings created in dozens of square meters with more than half a million of the bricks.

To enrich the exhibition, among forests and palaces, among spaceships and pirates, the visitor is also invited to a unique “character hunt,” a challenge in tracking down famous (and not) characters hidden within the installations: from Harry Potter to Darth Vader, several surprise guests included in the divine installations that accompany in the visit all those who want to have fun to unearth among the bricks. And again, demonstrating how Lego modules are able to “create art at 360°,” on display at Palazzo Trinci unfailing will also be the canvases of Stefano Bolcato, revisitations in ’little LEGO men’ version of the largest and most famous canvases and masterpieces in the history of’art, from the Mona Lisa to the most current paintings of Frida Kahlo; but also the comic cartoons/installations of the LEGOlize collective - authors in 2016 of the humor page of the same name that now has over 2 million followers on social - where comedy becomes art.

The dioramas

LIBERATION With about 120,000 pieces, this diorama is a historical representation of the entry of the Allies into one of the towns in the Italian province that were still under the control of German troops in 1945. Troops make their way through bombing ruins and the wreckage of military vehicles.

GREATDIORAMA CITY Consisting of about 160,000 pieces, the Great City Diorama is the ultimate expression of the city theme represented by unique and unrepeatable constructions made entirely from original bricks and using both traditional and unconventional construction techniques. Builders independently design and create their works using different inspirations and styles, using sketches, technical drawings but also assisted design software dedicated to Lego bricks. The collection of these creations is constantly being enriched by new works composed of thousands of bricks and rich in detail. The urban layout is defined using more conventional CAD software; thus, historic center districts, station and railroad sections, green zones and recreational areas are outlined.

IMPERIAL FORUMS - FORUM OF AUGUSTUS - YEAR 2 B.C. With about 60,000 pieces The Forum of Augustus is the second in chronological order among the Imperial Forums of Rome, and this diorama represents a very faithful and detailed reconstruction of it. In the square stands the temple dedicated to Mars the Avenger, inaugurated in 2 B.C., which rested at the bottom of the very high perimeter wall. At the head of the northern portico a distinct room housed a colossal statue of the emperor. In the center of the square stands the triumphal quadriga of Emperor Augustus Victorious.

MEDIEVAL DIORAMA 90,000 pieces depict a city inspired by Rome in the Middle Ages: new buildings, created from brick and waste materials, lean against and overlap ancient buildings, incorporating them into a chaotic but fascinating architecture; houses, towers, and cultivated fields rise where large squares paved in marble and travertine used to be, while churches spring up where temples used to stand.

GREAT PIRATES DIORAMA Some 200,000 bricks create the diorama depicting the Caribbean settlements of 18th-century English settlers. The tranquility of the unspoiled nature of the volcanic atolls is interrupted by the roar of cannon fire from imperial ships chasing pirates after hidden treasures, the prey of past raids. All at the foot of the great volcano ready to erupt.

ARCTICDIORAMA In this installation, some 80,000 pieces reproduce a portion of the Arctic ice cap on which a base devoted to the study of natural resources has been installed. There are analytical laboratories, hangars for sheltering aircraft, areas used for mining, and wind turbines for generating electricity. Moored on the natural dock is the large 35,000-piece icebreaker ship, fully furnished inside.

CLASSIC SPACE DIORAMA Conceived and designed by one of the world’s greatest collectors of original sets and pieces from the 1980s Lego® Classic Space series, the large 35,000-piece “Space” diorama reproduces a lunar mining settlement. In this futuristic setting, man relies on the help of spaceships, droids and machinery to search for new resources. Its creation is in constant flux as it is from time to time enriched with new unique and unrepeatable elements created by the builder who draws inspiration not only from the original series but also from the most important science fiction film sagas.

The exhibition I LOVE LEGO, sponsored by Palazzo Trinci - Museo della Città and the Municipality of Foligno, is produced and organized by Piuma in collaboration with Arthemisia.

The exhibition, which is not directly sponsored by LEGO, is made possible thanks to some of the world’s greatest collectors.
