The first solo exhibition of Colapesce, pseudonym of Lorenzo Urciullo, lands in Parma with BDC86 - Colapesce, Double Single Use, a photographic exhibition hosted from Jan. 23 to March 1, 2026 in theBorgo Delle Colonne space 28, in collaboration with and curated by Patricia Armocida Gallery. The opening is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 23, at 6:30 p.m., with the artist and gallery owner present; the evening will continue with a musical selection curated by Colapesce and a DJ set to follow, while the Santeria Parma bar will accompany the event. Admission is free and visits are possible on weekends or by email reservation.
"Double Single Use is not a photography exhibition but an exhibition of photographs," says Urciullo himself. The artist, who does not pursue photography professionally, has been documenting the hotel rooms he stays in during tours for about 15 years, with no specific motivation other than an interest in cataloging and personal memory. The selection on display includes about 200 shots chosen by gallery owner Patricia Armocida, who identified the potential of the images posted by the artist on Instagram.
The project is divided into three main series. The first, D.U.S., collects photographs of hotel rooms passed through on tours, representing an archive of spaces and moments of transition. Teresa and Anna, the second series, is dedicated to the artist’s grandmother and great-aunt and documents their homes, similar but different, recounting a family bond and domestic memory. The third series, Exhausted Days, offers intimate and symbolic images of Sicily, observed through the eyes of those who know it deeply. The photographs, of small format, return a vision of loneliness perceived with an ironic and reflective gaze, in which daily intimacy and the multiplicity of personal experiences become the subject of a true visual meditation.
"Double Single Use “ takes the form of a visual meditation on intimacy, the potential of solitude and the multiplicity of human experiences. Through a selection of about 200 photographic shots, the personal, zealous and reflective universe of Lorenzo Urciullo, aka Colapesce, is explored,” , writes art critic Domenico De Chirico.
Lorenzo Urciullo, aka Colapesce, has established himself as one of the most original protagonists of the Italian scene. In 2012 he received the Targa Tenco for best debut work with his debut album Un meraviglioso declino, which was followed by Egomostro (2015) and Infedele (2017), made with IOSONOUNCANE and Mario Conte. In 2015 he published, together with Alessandro Baronciani, the graphic novel La distanza for Bao Publishing. The following year he presented at the Romaeuropa Festival the show dedicated to the soundtrack of the images of director Vittorio De Seta. Recognized abroad, in 2013 he is cited by The Guardian as an example of exportable Italian music, while NMEand Le Monde report Egomostro among the best European pop works in non-English languages. In 2019 he debuts as an actor in the play Stanno tutti male, written with Riccardo Goretti and Stefano Cenci.
In 2020 he releases, with Dimartino, the album I Mortali, welcomed by critics and the public. In 2021 they participate in the Sanremo Festival with Musica leggerissima, which obtained five Platinum Records, and they release I mortali 2, a double album with ten new tracks. Also together with Dimartino they sign Toy Boy, with Ornella Vanoni and Luca Guadagnino, and Cose da pazzi, based on the Amazon Prime series The Bad Guy. In 2023 they star in La primavera della mia vita, which is followed by the soundtrack of the same name. At the following edition of Sanremo they present Splash, winning the Mia Martini Critics’ Award and the Lucio Dalla Press Room Award. This is followed by the albums Lux Eterna Beach and, in 2024, Archi, ottoni e preoccupazioni, live with the orchestra La Corelli conducted by Davide Rossi. In the same year he composed the soundtrack for Iddu - Sicilian Letters, starring Toni Servillo and Elio Germano, earning nominations for the David di Donatello and Nastri d’Argento awards. Also in 2024, he made his debut as a photographer with the exhibition Double Single Use, curated by the Patricia Armocida Gallery in Milan.
