Holocaust Remembrance Day: an exhibition in Turin dedicated to Mario Lattes on the Shoah and Jewish culture

The Bottari Lattes Foundation in Turin is dedicating an exhibition to Mario Lattes on the occasion of Memorial Day.

From January 24 to February 23, 2019, the Bottari Lattes Foundation is hosting the exhibition Mario Lattes. Do Not Forget, on the occasion of Memorial Day.

The exhibition will open at 5:30 p.m. at Spazio Don Chisciotte in Turin and will feature several unpublished works by Lattes on the theme of the Shoah and Jewish culture, belonging to the Bottari Lattes Foundation and heirs. Also presented to the public will be the Don’t Forget research by Liceo Gioberti students on the consequences that the 1938 racial laws had on the school’s students and teachers, with an in-depth look at the personal history of Mario Lattes. After a course of meetings with experts, historians, witnesses and professionals, the pupils focused on the documents preserved in the High School’s Historical Archives, the Terracini Archives of the Jewish Community and the State Archives, in search of the professors and students who, because of the racial laws, were removed from the high school or suffered even serious consequences. So many stories were uncovered through photographs, class and exam admission records, report cards, letters, telegrams, minutes, and life stories of the families of students defined as being of Jewish race who were prevented from continuing high school. The publication can be found online at www.liceogioberti.gov.it/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Non-dimenticare.pdf

The most significant works of Mario Lattes (Turin, Oct. 25, 1923 - Dec. 28, 2001), publisher, painter, engraver and writer, as well as creator of cultural initiatives, will be on display at Spazio Don Quixote to commemorate the tragedy of the Shoah with powerful and dramatic images.

Hours: Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 3 to 7 p.m. Free admission.
