In Venice, the first exhibition of only oils on canvas by Omar Galliani: Painted. The Metis of Water

The Piazza San Marco Gallery of the Istituzione Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa in Venice is hosting, from September 28 to December 3, 2019, DIPINTA. La metis dell’acqua, the first exhibition of only oils on canvas by Omar Galliani, executed between 1981 and 2019. The exhibition is curated by Eleonora Frattarolo.

Galliani, who is best known as a great draughtsman for his use of graphite on a wooden support and for the iconographic inventions consequent to the use of such materials, has actually practiced oil painting since his beginnings, which can certainly be defined as an indispensable technique of his research. As it happens in the sphere of musical language, in fact, Galliani makes painting an “accompaniment” to the central theme of drawing, developing in its womb autonomous motifs supporting the overall poetic harmony. Eleonora Frattarolo writes in the catalog, “With the presentation of about twenty large paintings dedicated to water, its thickenings, its infinite visible and invisible motions, DIPINTA is a reconsideration of the statute of painting and a recapitulation on the meaning of its gestures, fundamental motions to produce form. Moreover, for Galliani, the flow of the brushes refers unequivocally to the metis of water and the iridescent reflections of change and its laws.”

The exhibition, produced with the support of Studio Vigato Arte Contemporanea and Caffè Florian, will be open from Wednesday to Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Free admission. Catalog Vigato Editore with text by Eleonora Frattarolo and rich iconographic apparatus.
