Marina Abramović is on show this fall in Milan, Italy, with one of her important cycle

From October 18 to December 31, 2019, Marina Abramovic is on display in Milan, at the Crypt of San Sepolcro, with her cycle 'The Kitchen. Homage to Saint Therese'.

After the success of last fall’s exhibition in Florence, Marina Abramović (Belgrade, 1946) returns to Italy this year and does so with an exhibition in the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana complex in Milan, and in particular in the underground area of the ancient Roman forum, in the visit path of the Crypt of San Sepolcro (whose restoration, as we told you, has just finished in these days). In Milan, the godmother of performance art arrives from October 18 to December 31, 2019 with her important video cycle, The Kitchen. Homage to Saint Therese, which also gives the exhibition its title.

It is a work in which Marina Abramović confronts one of the most important figures in Catholicism, Saint Teresa of Ávila: with three videos, the artist documents as many performances that took place in the former Laboral Convent in Gijón, Spain, in the saint’s homelands. According to legend, St. Teresa was seized by involuntary levitation while cooking in her convent: in the video, the artist recreates this event (we see her cooking, and then hovering in the air). For Abramović, the fascination of the experience the saint had lies in the ambivalent relationship she established with God (in fact, it is said that the saint wanted to come down because she was hungry, but she was unsuccessful).

The exhibition is curated by Casa Testori and produced by MilanoCard Group, in collaboration with the Veneranda Biblioteca and Pinacoteca Ambrosiana. For all information you can visit the website of the Crypt of San Sepolcro.
