Palazzo Ducale in Genoa will be home from May 23 to Sept. 9, 2018, to the exhibition"México. The Painting of the Great Muralists and the Life Shots of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo."
This is a project that remained unfinished in Santiago, Chile in 1973, when the exhibition"Orozco, Rivera, Siqueiros. Mexican Painting" was abruptly canceled due to Pinochet’s coup d’état: the exhibition is in fact known as la exposición pendiente (the suspended exhibition).
Through 70 works created by the three great masters of muralism, namely Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros, visitors can learn more about Mexican art, particularly muralism, one of the most important movements of the 20th century.
On display will be sketches for murals and large drawings; in addition, thanks to modern HD video animation technology, there will be extensive documentation of the original murals placed in the various cities of Mexico.
A photographic collection will document the intertwining of the artistic and political events of the three muralists with Frida Kahlo: 50 vintage photos taken by relatives and friends of the artists and famous photographers such as Guillermo Kahlo, Frida’s father, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Nickolas Muray, Ernesto Reyes, Ansel Adams and Juan Guzman.
The exhibition is curated by Carlos Palacios and is a collaboration between the Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil in Mexico City, the Embassy of Mexico in Italy and the Consulate of Mexico in Milan with the Palazzo Ducale Foundation.
