Montessori method and Bruno Munari's art in an exhibition on touch

The Mole Vanvitelliana in Ancona presents the exhibition Touching Beauty from November 10, 2019. Maria Montessori Bruno Munari.

At the 18th-century Mole Vanvitelliana in Ancona, the exhibition To Touch Beauty will be held from November 10, 2019 to March 8, 2020. Maria Montessori Bruno Munari.

Through two protagonists of modern Italian culture, together for the first time, an attempt will be made to give answers to questions they both wondered about: is it possible to perceive, recognize and appreciate beauty also through touch? if one wanted to promote this aesthetic awareness among anyone who wants to experience this possibility, what strategies could be put in place?

In fact, the exhibition intends to propose a reflection on Maria Montessori ’s thought and materials and Bruno Munari’s original ideas and works.

The leitmotif of the exhibition will be touch, from which the thematic nuclei that make up the exhibition itinerary are inspired: shapes, materials, manipulating and building, alphabets and tactile narratives. The aim is thus to promote a meaningful experience of tactility from an artistic and aesthetic point of view.

More than one hundred works by artist and designer Bruno Munari will be exhibited, as well as editorial works documenting his creative journey, starting in the 1940s; his art has always been characterized by multisensoriality and the use of a large quantity and variety of natural and industrial materials for pedagogical purposes.

Both Maria Montessori’s educational model and various materialswill be presented , especially those relatedto sensory education and the hand, which she considered “the organ of intelligence.” The exhibition is also an opportunity to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Maria Montessori’s birth.

The itinerary will be enriched by in-depth exhibits, environments and interactive rooms, including The Tactile Forest designed by Munari.

The exhibition is promoted and organized by the Omero State Tactile Museum and the City of Ancona, in collaboration with the Chiaravalle Montessori Foundation and theBruno Munari Association.
