More than 120 engravings by Dürer on display in Bagnacavallo to present his diverse souls

From September 21, 2019 to January 19, 2020, the Bagnacavallo Capuchin Museum offers the public the exhibition Albrecht Dürer. The Privilege of Disquiet.

From September 21, 2019 to January 19, 2020, the Museo Civico delle Cappuccine in Bagnacavallo hosts the exhibition Albrecht Dürer. The Privilege of Disquiet, curated by Diego Galizzi and Patrizia Foglia.

On the museum’s exhibition thread focused on international artists who strongly expressed themselves through the technique of engraving, after the exhibitions dedicated to Francisco Goya and Max Klinger, it was intended to present to the public the “noble father” of graphic thought, Albrecht Dürer (Nuremberg 1471 - 1528).

The intention of the curators is to invite visitors to encounter the different souls of Dürer, both as a man and as an artist, since critics have defined him as humanist, Gothic, craftsman, and theorist; however, all his different souls are intrinsically linked to each other and it is not possible to separate them. For him, engraving is the ideal medium to convey a new iconography, whether sacred or profane; a modern way to dialogue with his time, with his contemporaneity. Attracted toItalian Renaissance art, he was a universal seeker, continually disposed toward theoretical and scientific research to achieve new things.

In the exhibition, the public has the opportunity to admire more than 120 graphic works from public and private Italian collections: the cycle of the Apocalypse, St. Eustace, St. Jerome in the Study and Knight, Death and the Devil are on display, as well as Melencolia I, his great masterpiece imbued with intellectualism and even esotericism.
