New trends in painting in a major exhibition in Milan

The exhibition 'The New Frontiers of Painting,' investigating new trends in contemporary painting, curated by Demetrio Paparoni, continues in Milan.

The exhibition The New Frontiers of Painting, which opened last Nov. 16 at the Fondazione Stelline in Milan, continues until Feb. 25, 2018. Thirty-four works by as many artists from seventeen countries are on display: the aim of the exhibition, curated by critic Demetrio Paparoni, is to explore new trends in international painting. This is the first major exhibition organized in Italy on this theme. “As much as the role played by figurative painting is central in today’s art scene and as much as it expresses the spirit of the times no less than other forms of expression,” says Demetrio Paparoni, “large exhibitions tend to minimize its scope, always preferring to include a small number of figurative paintings, diluted in a multilingual context that often tends to contain its scope.”

Almost all of the artists in the exhibition were born after 1960, and there are several young people among them. Here are the thirty-four painters Demetrio Paparoni has selected for the exhibition itinerary: Francis Alÿs, Michaël Borremans, Kevin Cosgrove, Jules de Balincourt, Lars Elling, Inka Essenhigh, Laurent Grasso, Li Songsong, Liu Xiaodong, Victor Man, Margherita Manzelli, Rafael Megall, Justin Mortimer, Paulina Olowska, Alessandro Pessoli, Daniel Pitín, Pietro Roccasalva, Nicola Samorì, Wilhelm Sasnal, Markus Schinwald, David Schnell, Dana Schutz, Vibeke Slyngstad, Anj Smith, Nguyê˜n Thái Tuâ´n, Natee Utarit, Ronald Ventura, Nicola Verlato, Sophie von Hellermann, Ruprecht von Kaufmann, Matthias Weischer, Wang Guangyi, Yue Minjun, Zhang Huan.

The exhibition is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (box office closes one hour before). Monday closing day. Tickets: full price 8 euros, reduced price 6 euros.
