On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the death of Luciano Salce, one of the most significant exponents of the world of entertainment and Italian culture of the twentieth century, Palazzo Firenze in Rome, in the headquarters of the Dante Alighieri Society, will offer the public the exhibition Luciano Salce. Irony is a Serious Matter.
On view from Sept. 25 to Oct. 6, 2019, the exhibition, curated by Emanuele Salce and Andrea Pergolari, aims to tell the story of Luciano Salce’s life and career, his artistic eclecticism, and his self-irony. Difficult moments such as imprisonment will also be narrated, as well as correspondence with friends and colleagues and the private diary from his Academy days will be shown.
The exhibition will unfold through his life and artistic activity with the contribution of in-depth photographic, audio and video materials and documents from the Luciano Salce Fund.
Thirty-nine exhibition panels will thus trace the life and career of Luciano Salce. Photos, reviews, articles, playbills, scripts, letters: all to reconstruct a story that links Cinecittà and Rai Tv, via Asiago and the Academy of Dramatic Art, Vittorio Gassman and Luigi Squarzina, Ugo Tognazzi and Antonello Falqui, Mina and Monica Vitti, Lelio Luttazzi and Sergio Corbucci, Paolo Villaggio, Franca Valeri, Fantozzi, the Hunchbacks, World War II, and prison camps in Germany. All materials will be donated to the Experimental Film Center’s Chiarini Library and will be available at www.lucianosalce.it.
The review is hosted by Dante and will inaugurate the program of initiatives that the historical Society will promote on the occasion of the19th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World, on the theme L’italiano sul Palcoscenico (Italian on Stage).
