Ono arte presents Denis ORegan's solo exhibition with shots dedicated to Queen

Ono arte presents from Dec. 12, 2019 British photographer Denis O'Regan's solo exhibition dedicated to Queen.

ONO arte presents from Dec. 12, 2019 to Feb. 1, 2020 the solo exhibition of British photographer Denis O’Regan, entitled Helicopter’s days. Denis O’Regan’s Queens.

The photographer immortalized Queen at the height of their glory, as well as other big names in music, such as David Bowie, U2, Amy Whinehouse, Stones, and Bob Marley.

O’Regan first saw Queen in concert in December 1973, and the band was playing as Mott the Hoople ’s backing band at London’s Hammersmith Odeon. Thirteen years later, on August 9, 1986, Queen had reached the height of their fame, becoming the most important socio-cultural phenomenon on the planet, and by popular demand, they announced an extra date as part of The Magic Tour. They played at Knebworth Park in north London to an audience of about 115,000 people.

Due to heavy traffic around the concert venue, Queen had to arrive by helicopter. In order to take the photos that would become some of the British rock band’s most famous, Denis went to a local airport and the band rented a helicopter with a pilot for him so he could take the photos as they flew in from London. “In my most important photo of Queen, Queen is not visible, but this is also a testament to how big they had become. And the helicopter spoke for them,” the photographer would later say.

O’Regan, as the official tour photographer, took onstage and backstage photos in every European city. Among these shots, one of the most famous is the wide-angle shot of Freddie Mercury wearing his golden crown, one arm raised to the sky, and his regal cape draped over his shoulders.

The exhibition will display forty photographs and a section devoted to Queen, as well as a more general one on the artists O’Regan immortalized throughout his career.
