Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara dedicates first monographic exhibition in October to Carlo Bononi

Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara will host a monographic exhibition dedicated to the seventeenth-century painter Carlo Bononi from October 2017 to January 2018.

From Oct. 14, 2017 to Jan. 7, 2018, the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara will devote its first monographic exhibition to Carlo Bononi, an artist who worked in the 17th century, whose name, though little known, is likened to Caravaggio and Zurbarán.

Exalted by Guido Reni, who called him a “non-ordinary painter” with a “great and primary way of doing things,” endowed with “a great wisdom in drawing and in the strength of coloring,” Carlo Bononi produced mythological scenes, altarpieces and large decorative cycles using a painting based on emotion, on the intimate and sentimental relationship between the characters represented and the observer.

In the decorations of Santa Maria in Vado he makes skillful use of light and resorts to theatricality, but in canvases such as"The Miracle of Soriano" or"The Guardian Angel," the artist becomes a great naturalist.

"Carlo Bononi. The Last Dreamer of the Ferrara Workshop" is curated by Giovanni Sassu and Francesca Cappelletti and is organized by the Ferrara Arte Foundation and the Ferrara Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art.
Hours: open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. with special evening openings on Oct. 31 until 10:30 p.m. and on Dec. 31 until 11:30 p.m.
Tickets: full 11 euros, reduced 9 euros.
