Political confinement in Ustica during fascism. An exhibition in Rome

Il confino politico a Ustica 1926-1927 is the exhibition, promoted by Roma Capitale - Assessorato alla Crescita culturale - Dipartimento Attività Culturali in collaboration with Zètema Progetto Cultura, which will take place from September 6 to 24, 2019 at the Casa della Memoria e della Storia in Rome.

Through photographs from both public and private archives, the exhibition aims to tell the story of how, with the approval of the “fascistissime” laws enacted in 1926, politicians, who previously constituted a minority on the island of Ustica compared to those confined for common crimes, became a more significant presence until they reached the number of about 600 transits.

The exhibition, therefore, offers images, testimonies and documents regarding some of the protagonists, including Gramsci and Bordiga, putting together political and human events placed in the physical cultural and anthropological scenario of Ustica.

Design, research and texts by Vito Ailara and Massimo Caserta.

Hours: 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Free admission.
