The Salone degli Incanti in Trieste hosts from March 12 to July 23, 2022, the sensory exhibition Frida Kahlo - The Chaos Within to immerse oneself in the world of the Mexican artist in 360°.

From March 12 to July 23, 2022, the exhibition thesensory exhibition Frida Khalo - The Chaos Within, curated by Antonio Toribio Arévalo Villalba, Aleandra Matiz, Milagros Ancheita, Maria Rosso, arrives at the Salone degli Incanti in Trieste, with the support of the Embassy of Mexico in Italy - Consulate of Mexico in Milan, in collaboration with BAT Italia, ZKB and Antica Tostatura Triestina; promoted by the Municipality of Trieste - Department of Culture and Tourism Policies, with the support of Discover Trieste Convention and Visitors Bureau and PromoTurismoFVG, is produced and organized by Navigare Srl.

The exhibition intends to offer an immersive journey into the inner and artistic world of Frida Kahlo, famous Mexican artist and one of the most famous female figures of the 20th century, focusing on the enchantment and suggestions of the union between original works and technology. The idea is to give the visitor the opportunity to enter with all the senses into the artist’s suffered, chaotic and vital world, through a path in which different traits of her sensibility and personality are addressed. The exhibition also gives ample space to her husband Diego Rivera, an exponent painter of Mexican Muralism.

Chaos Within intends to narrate Frida Kahlo by emphasizing both the cultural and political temperament in which the painter lived, as well as her fragilities and strength. Modern immersive technologies will reinforce the suggestions.

The Hall of Enchantments will feature the original painting Piden aeroplanos y les dan alas de petate attributed to Frida Kahlo and fifteen reproductions of famous self-portraits made between 1926 and 1949 reproduced with modlight technology, which restores the viewer to the details of oil painting with extraordinary realism. Original works also include six watercolor lithographs by Diego Rivera, from private Mexican collections, and a hundred black-and-white and color shots by Colombian photographer Leo Matiz from the Leo Matiz Foundation in Bogota. Also on display are letters and diary pages, more than forty philatelic issues (including one featuring the famous Self-Portrait with Necklace from 1933), alongside digital reproductions of Mexican self-portraits and murals, life-size reproductions of environments such as Frida Kahlo’s bedroom, studio, and garden, and a high-tech 10D cinema room for multi-sensory video projection.
