The illustrated and colorful world of Olimpia Zagnoli arrives in Reggio Emilia

From Sept. 24 to Nov. 28, 2021, Kaleidoscopica, an exhibition dedicated to the illustrated and colorful world of Olimpia Zagnoli, arrives in Reggio Emilia.

Opening Sept. 24 and open to the public until Nov. 28, 2021, is the exhibition at the Chiostri di San Pietro in Reggio Emilia dedicated to the illustrated world of Olimpia Zagnoli.

Curated by Melania Gazzotti, the exhibition titled Kaleidoscopica aims to retrace ten years of the illustrator’s career by showing her unmistakable stroke declined in drawings, prints, neon, textiles, ceramic, wood and Plexiglas sculptures and everyday objects, and demonstrating how she is able to express herself with the same ease with the languages of the visual arts and those of design and ’publishing, recounting in an immersive environment the complexity of the artist’screative universe and his sources of inspiration, ranging from the history of art to that of design and graphics.

In the Cloisters of St. Peter’s, in whose outdoor courtyards will be set up a large-scale “sculpture garden” created thanks to the contribution of the fashion house Marella, the works will be juxtaposed by free association or affinity of color, subject and form.

Also on display will be some of his most iconic images, such as the poster for the New York transportation company MTA and his covers for The New Yorker; there will also be some unpublished youthful drawings and sketches.

Accompanying the exhibition is a catalog published by Lazy Dog Press, a publishing house specializing in illustration and graphic books.

Kaleidoscopica is joined by Capriole di pensieri, a project curated by Fondazione Palazzo Magnani, Preschools and Infant-toddler Centers - Institution of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia and Reggio Children, in which the suggestions of the works of the young artist, a former preschool child of Reggio Emilia, are interpreted in tune with the age and interests of the girls and boys of the city’s preschools and infant-toddler centers. A journey into children’s perceptions and inventions as a testament to their creativity as they interpret and reinvent the world.

The Kaleidoscopic exhibition is produced in collaboration with the Municipality of Reggio Emilia as part of Reggio for Emilia 20/21, with contributions from the Reggio Emilia Chamber of Commerce and the Manodori Foundation and thanks to the support of Marella, Coopservice, Grissin Bon and Natura Si.
