The Last Supper after Leonardo: an exhibition in Milan on contemporary interpretations of Leonardo's masterpiece

Among the many events celebrating the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci ’s death is The Last Supper after Leonardo, an exhibition open from April 2 to June 30, 2019 at the Fondazione Stelline in Milan. The exhibition sees six exponents of contemporary art, namely Anish Kapoor, Robert Longo, Masbedo, Nicola Samorì, Wang Guangyi, and Yue Minjun, all from different cultural traditions, rereading The Last Supper from Leonardo’s depiction of it, making it one of the highest expressions of our culture, in a dialogue between East and West.

Emphasizing how Leonardo’s famous painting continues to influence contemporary art, the exhibition showcases Wang Guangyi’s The Last Supp er, which has never made it to the West, works expressly created by Robert Longo, Nicola Samorì and Yue Minjun, a video by Masbedo focusing on the hands that restored the work and a tribute by Anish Kapoor to Leonardo’s work.

The exhibition is produced by the Foundation itself and curated by Demetrio Paparoni. For all information you can visit the official website of the Foundation.
