Tutankhamun arrives in Milan: an exhibition and immersive experience to enter the pharaoh's world at Palazzo Reale

The Royal Palace in Milan is hosting, from March 5 to June 14, Tutankhamun RealExperience, an immersive experience that aims to recount a “journey beyond darkness” of the most famous of pharaohs and illustrate the ancient Egyptians’ conception of the afterlife.

But that’s not all: in fact, an archaeological section has also been set up where some precious original objects from Milan’s Civic Collections, the National Archaeological Museum in Florence and some private collections are displayed. Of particular note is the recomposition of the so-called Busca trousseau, with the mummy, sarcophagus and papyrus, and the Statue of the god Amun, with the somatic features of the young Tutankhamun.

As for theexperience, large immersive projections have been set up accompanied by original music and an engaging narrative based on a solid Egyptological framework that is advised by a prestigious scientific committee, chaired by Miroslav Barta and composed of Zahi Hawass, Christian E. Loeben, Liam McNamara and Gabriele Pieke.

The exhibition aims to address the theme of the mystery of death and the afterlife by restoring to it the complexity and plurality that characterized Egyptian civilization. It will thus be possible to be confronted with an innovative conception of a civilization of which we wrongly believe we know many aspects, and there will be an opportunity to discover how much Western thought owes it, thanks to the use of two different exhibition languages that recount the journey beyond the darkness of Pharaoh and his subjects.
