Two hundred portraits on display at MAXXI for Giovanni Gastel's photography exhibition

Until November 22, 2020, MAXXI in Rome welcomes the photography exhibition Giovanni Gastel. The people I like, with two hundred portraits on display

In Rome, MAXXI - Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo presents until November 22, 2020 the photographic exhibition Giovanni Gastel. The people I like, curated by Uberto Frigerio.

In a world premiere, Giovanni Gastel (Milan, 1955) shows more than two hundred “soul portraits” of the people who have most impressed him: from Barack Obama to Marco Pannella, from Germano Celant to Ettore Sottsass, from Bebe Vio to Luciana Littizzetto, from Monica Bellucci to Miriam Leone, from Vasco Rossi to Tiziano Ferro and many others.

The famous photographer consecrates the portrait as an artistic work par excellence, revealing itself in its most intimate authenticity. Through the two hundred portraits on display, he documents an important part of his work as an artist in more than four decades.

Models, actresses, artists, industry professionals, celebrities, singers, musicians, politicians, journalists, designers, and chefs are part of the kaleidoscope of photographs on display without a specific order, or belonging to a specific industry or category."The people I like tells about my world, the people who have transmitted something to me, taught me, touched my soul,“ Gastel commented. He added, ”Photographing is a necessity and not a job. Making eternal an ’encounter’ between two souls, enchants me and makes me feel part of a whole."
