Through Aug. 30, 2025, the Udine Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art - Casa Cavazzini is hosting Mondo Mizuki, Mondo Yokai, the first major Italian anthological exhibition dedicated to Shigeru Mizuki, one of the most famous masters of Japanese manga and a specialist in stories of yokai, or the monstrous apparitions of Japanese mythology. The exhibition, curated by Canicola, Vincenzo Filosa and MIZUKI Productions (Tokyo) and produced by C.E.C. - Centro Espressioni Cinematografiche/Far East Film Festival (Udine) in agreement with Mizuki Pro(Japan) and with Canicola (Bologna) in collaboration with Casa Cavazzini, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Udine, is designed to celebrate the genius of an author who knew how to fuse sequential art, folkloric tradition and fantastic imagery with a personal and unmistakable vision.
On display are 100 original plates, many of which are presented to the public for the first time outside Japan, along with a rich selection of reproductions, magazines, books, video documents and critical texts. The exhibition invites visitors to immerse themselves in the fascinating universe of Shigeru Mizuki, exploring his relationship with the stories devoted to yokai, the mysterious and eerie creatures of Japanese mythology that have populated the popular Japanese imagination for centuries.
Mondo Mizuki, Mondo Yokai is organized as part of the 27th Far East Film Festival (April 24-May 2) and was created with the intention of paying tribute to an author who has established himself as a landmark in the graphic and narrative history of Japan and inJapanese sequential art. It is an unmissable event for those who wish to get up close and personal with the work of a true master of manga. The exhibition benefits from the contribution of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and is part of the program of Go!2025&Friends, the bill of events connected to the official program of GO!2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia European Capital of Culture, and by Casa Cavazzini, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Udine with the contribution of the Municipality of Udine - Department of Culture and EU-Japan Fest Japan Committee, and with the support of Credifriuli, Credito Cooperativo Friuli and Chamber of Commerce of Pordenone-Udine and Amga Energia & Servizi - Commercial Brand of Hera Group.
