Visual Echo. Tom Parish's posthumous exhibition in Venice

From Aug. 2 to Oct. 31, 2019, the Cloister of Madonna dell'Orto in Venice will host American artist Tom Parish's posthumous exhibition, Visual Echo.

The Cloister of Madonna dell’Orto in Venice hosts from August 2 to October 31, 2019 Visual Echo, a posthumous exhibition by Tom Parish (Hibbing-Minnesota, 1933 - Detroit, 2018).

The exhibition dedicated to therecently deceased American artist will allow visitors to admire the last paintings he made: they are works that testify to the symbiotic relationship between him and Venice, an inexhaustible source of inspiration for his artistic production, so much so that he exclusively dedicated more than 30 years of painting to it.

Twenty large paintings will be on display, including nine previously unpublished ones made between 2017 and 2018, where Parish depicts his love for the city suspended between dream and reality, where the slow and relentless flow of water collides with the shadows and reflections created by the majestic Venetian palaces.

Also present is the artist’s latest work, Con TV: a painting composed of two seemingly opposing images, but in dialogue with each other, namely a Venetian sunset and a frame of the Pope on television. A reference to faith combined with the eternity given by the Venetian landscape, almost symbolizing a state of mind of stillness and inner peace that, perhaps, Parish wanted to convey in the manner of a spiritual testament.

The exhibition was curated by Shirley and Erin Parish, the artist’s wife and daughter, artists themselves, and was designed by Tom Parish himself, who a year before his death had personally chosen a symbolic and evocative place, such as the Cloister of Madonna dell’Orto, to exhibit his works in the lagoon for the fifth time.

Hours: Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Mondays.

Free admission.
