Gallery opens in Milan entirely dedicated to film imagery and Alternative Movie Posters

Soggettiva Gallery, the gallery dedicated to film imagery and Alternative Movie Posters, opens in Milan. Its exhibition program begins with the exhibition-manifesto MOSTERS (sacred) vs. MONSTERS (just).

A gallery dedicated to the imagery of cinema is born in Milan: it is Soggettiva Gallery and it is the new project conceived by Alberto Bozzoli and Raoul Simoni, already “authors” of the Milanese space “Il Cinemino,” which intends to propose itself as a point of reference for artistic experiences inspired by cinema.

The name of the space refers to the narrative device defined by the cinematic subjective, a type of framing that corresponds to the gaze generally assimilated to the first-person view. This choice suggests the intent to highlight the different points of view that the artists offer through their own reinterpretation of films of all genres, to offer the visitor a personal and unprecedented key to interpreting the history of cinema and the moving image in general.

Soggettiva Gallery brings for the first time in Italy the Alternative Movie Posters, “alternative” movie posters to the originals, often referring to fundamental titles in the history of cinema, reinterpreted through graphic transformations or subjective expressive reworking. Alternative Movie Posters draws attention to the deep ties that cinema has had with the art world since its origins, when pictorialist photography, illustration, art graphics, and generally every discipline of the visual arts were drawn upon to illustrate posters.

The gallery aims to encourage the emergence of new trends, while also acting as a publisher of work by young Italian and international designers and a patron of artists already established in this field. There will be specific focuses on photography, design, mixed media, comics and their relationship with cinema through thematic calls to action addressed to artists, to make Soggettiva a place for the generation of unprecedented and surprising paths, capable of creating hybridizations and new suggestions, involving all disciplines of visual art (official and unofficial) and applied arts.

Among the gallery’s most interesting collaborations is the one with the Stamperia and Cultural Association Milano Printmakers, which offers a new approach to art printing in all its expressions, offering members the opportunity to participate in printing courses of different levels, taught by recognized professionals in the field.

Soggettiva Gallery opens its doors to the public with the group show MOSTRI (sacred) vs. MOSTRI (and that’s it), an exhibition-manifesto that presents the never-before-seen, specially created works of six international artists (Tiziano Pantano - pseudonym Tizio 0.32, Francesco Chiappara - pseudonym Prenzy, Francesco Casolari, Daniel Dabrek, Silvia Cocomazzi and Adam Juresko, in dialogue with historical works from the gallery’s collection.

Soggettiva Gallery’s programming will continue from Dec. 1, 2022 with the group show UNCONVENTIONAL CHRISTMAS with the intention of enhancing the unusual “b-side” of Christmas. For this occasion, Marche-based illustrator Veronica Chessa will present #Marilynoska, an unpublished Matryoshka version of Marylin Monroe, on the occasion of the 60th year since her death, and the work Shining Christmas inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s famous film.

As part of the exhibition, a selection of works will be dedicated to Steven Spielberg, whose highly anticipated autobiographical film The Fabelmans is set for theatrical release on Dec. 15, 2022. On the occasion, Soggettiva Gallery will dedicate a panel to one of the greatest and most prolific geniuses of the seventh art with an unpublished work by artist Tiziano Pantano (TIZIO 0.32) inspired by Schindler List.
