A space dedicated to Michelangelo Antonioni in Ferrara: work on the Contemporary Art Pavilion soon

Renovation and restoration work on the Ferrara Pavilion of Contemporary Art will start soon: a new space dedicated to Michelangelo Antonioni will be built. 1.750 million euro investment.

The redevelopment and restoration of the Pavilion of Contemporary Art, which will lead to the creation of a new Space dedicated to the famous Ferrara director and Oscar winner Michelangelo Antonioni, will start this year in Ferrara.

The project of the intervention is due to a team including the Roman firm Alvisi-Kirimoto, with the company Ates, municipal architect Rossella Bizzi and engineer Paolo Rebecchi. Promoters of the project are, with the municipal administration, Ferrara Arte Foundation president Vittorio Sgarbi and Enrica Fico, who was Antonioni’s wife. Curator is Dominique Païni, former director of the Cinémathèque française.

The work is scheduled to be awarded at the end of January so that the construction site can start within a few weeks. The duration of the intervention will be about a year and involves an investment of 1.750 million euros from municipal funds. It will be carried out by Unyon Consorzio stabile Scarl. Responsible for the procedure are municipal engineer Paolo Rebecchi and architect Natascia Frasson.

The work will affect the facade of the Contemporary Art Pavilion (and the nearby Modern Art Depot) and the interior, with the redoing of the systems, the installation of an air conditioning system with humidity control and mechanical ventilation, and radiant heating on the ground floor, for energy efficiency, the construction of new flooring, with a new floor against the ground. Insulation work, modernization of smoke detection and electrical systems, new video surveillance and intrusion detection systems are also planned. Fixed walls with integrated illuminated and air-conditioned display niches for the placement of works will also be placed in the ground floor rooms, and, also on the upper floor, movable plasterboard walls with internal glass wool insulation, micro-perforated to improve acoustic performance, in the rooms that will be used for film and documentary screenings. Also planned is the renovation of the staircase, with glazed parapet, and the entrance/ticket office. Also new will be the lighting, with recessed linear elements and adjustable microspots.

To allow for the upcoming start of the construction site, the disassembly of the interior spaces of the Contemporary Art Pavilion, which hosted the exhibition dedicated to Piero Guccione until Sunday, January 8, is underway these days.
