Après le déluge, among resurfaced and misunderstood works at Villa d'Este

An imaginary and everyday journey among the resurfaced and misunderstood works in the exhibition Après le déluge.

Beginning Tuesday, March 31, the Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este Institute - Villae is proposing new ways of storytelling and enjoyment to the public in this health emergency.

Social channels will present an imaginary and everyday journey among the resurfaced and misunderstood works of the exhibition Après le déluge, curated by director Andrea Bruciati, in collaboration with Benedetta Adembri and Micaela Angle. The exhibition opened last Feb. 10 at the Shrine of Hercules Vincitor and Villa d’Este.

It consists of a significant nucleus of archaeological goods, clandestinely removed from Italian territory and recovered by the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, to which are added works on canvas and photographs from private collections. Masterpieces united by an iconography responding to theidea of landscape in modern and contemporary times, with deep affinities with the history of the Villae.

“The interest of this communication project,” said Andrea Bruciati, director of the Villae, "stems from the possibility of once again rescuing from oblivion a submerged heritage in order to recover it, in an alternative but complementary way, for public enjoyment, enhancing its identity function. We all need to project ourselves, as the very title of our exhibition suggests, après le déluge, toward beauty, sharing and enchantment. Jules Verne in his novels about lost worlds told how the unknown allows us to travel with the mind, imagining unknown lands or inaccessible depths. Not resigning ourselves to loss and distance, we invite a new adventure of the spirit that makes use of different tools to tap into a perennial heritage."
