Starting April 1, 2026,Pomposa Abbey and the Pomposian Museum will introduce a new electronic ticketing system designed to improve the visitor experience by making it more accessible, inclusive, and tailored to the needs of the public. This innovation is part of the national strategy promoted by the Ministry of Culture aimed at creating an integrated digital ecosystem for state museums. The Pomposa complex, which is part of the National Museums of Bologna - Regional Directorate National Museums Emilia-Romagna, thus enters into a process of innovation aimed at simplifying access modes and enhancing the cultural heritage.
Entrance to the Abbey and Museum will be managed exclusively through electronic payment systems. Visitors will be able to purchase tickets independently through two methods: the totems at the museum’s ticket office, available in multiple languages (Italian, English, French and Spanish) or the Musei Italiani digital platform, also accessible through a free app that can be downloaded from Google Play and Apple Store. The new digital stations, at the entrance of the complex, will allow not only the immediate purchase of tickets via POS, but will also offer up-to-date information on the entire system of Italian state museums, helping to orient and enrich the visitor’s experience, at the same time the museum staff on duty at the ticket office will facilitate ticket purchase operations and give information about the abbey complex.
“The introduction of digital totems represents an important step in the path of innovation at Pomposa Abbey,” stresses director Serena Ciliani. “We want to offer visitors simple and effective tools that make the visit more autonomous and accessible, without sacrificing the quality of the welcome. Pomposa Abbey will be the first site, among those of the regional museums directorate, to experiment with the use of these totems. Visitors will be able to make autonomous payments, which can be made only by ATM and credit card. It is a concrete way to approach new audiences and improve the experience of those who choose to discover this extraordinary place.”
