A new edition of the course for cultural popularizers at the University of Genoa. Presentation tomorrow

A new series of d:cult meetings dedicated to scientific and cultural popularization kicks off. The inaugural event will be held in Genoa's Berio Civic Library and will feature scholars, managers and professionals in the field.

A new series of d:cult meetings, a course entirely dedicated to the popularization of science and the transmission of cultural heritage, will kick off on May 13, 2025 in Genoa. The initiative, is part of a larger program of training and discussion promoted by the IANUA School - Higher Education of the University of Genoa, with the aim of critically reflecting on the communication of culture in contemporary society. Admission to the meetings is free while places last.

The opening event will take place at 4 p.m. at theBerio Civic Library inGenoa, in the space of the Sala Chierici. The course presentation will be addressed by IANUA School President Sebastiano Serpico and GiacomoMontanari, art historian and d:cult course director. The day will open with an introductory moment, which will be followed by a public dialogue entitled Di tutti e per tutti: necessità, vizi e virtù della divulgazione della cultura, conceived as a collective reflection on the methods and objectives of scientific and cultural dissemination. Discussing will be diverse voices from heterogeneous disciplinary and professional backgrounds, testifying to how the communication of knowledge does not exclusively concern the academic world, but involves a plurality of figures, from museums to cultural enterprises to university research. Speakers will include Tomaso Boyer, co-founder of the platform Itinerari Paralleli; AlessandraBucossi, professor of Byzantine Philology at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice; Elisa Moretto, cultural manager for Lilliput; and Alessandro Vanoli, historian and popularizer. Moderating the debate will be Giacomo Montanari, scientific director of the course. The conclusions will be entrusted to the rector of the University of Genoa, Federico Delfino.

The structure of the course intends to encourage interaction between speakers and participants, adopting hybrid communicative formats that alternate between face-to-face moments and round tables and workshops. d:cult was created with the intention of bridging the gap between knowledge production and public fruition, addressing the issue of popularization with a critical and multidisciplinary approach. The backdrop is the awareness that cultural communication today cannot be limited to the simple simplification of content, but must question the forms, languages and contexts in which transmission takes place. More information on the detailed program and how to participate will be made available through the IANUA School’s official website at dcult-ianua.it.
