The controversial (and also quite grotesque) affair of theangel with the face of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in the Chapel of the Crucifix in the basilica of San Lorenzo in Lucina in Rome continues to cause talk. The stated goal is to protect the place of worship and its spiritual function, preventing any changes or personal interpretations from interfering with the enjoyment and liturgical significance of the work.
The Vicariate also stressed its commitment to the enhancement of the church’s artistic heritage, pointing out that any intervention is carried out in collaboration with the state institutions in charge of the protection of cultural property. The body wished to reiterate how decisions on sacred art are made in compliance with established norms and procedures, in function of the preservation and protection of places of worship.
