Extraordinary maintenance needed for the reproduction of the Gate of Paradise

After nearly 30 years, the reproduction of the Gate of Paradise that has been part of the Florence Baptistery since 1990 will undergo extraordinary maintenance by theOpera del Duomo.
The maintenance work is scheduled to be completed by mid-September.

The reproduction was made of bronze and gold, using the same techniques Lorenzo Ghiberti employed to make the original, and was placed in the Baptistery in 1990, when the original was removed for restoration and later displayed in the Opera del Duomo Museum.

Maintenance of the reproduction is necessary because of the state of deterioration it is in due to outdoor exposure.
