Andrea Branzi, one of the fathers of Italian design, an internationally renowned architect and artist, has died at the age of 85. Born in Florence in 1938, where he graduated, he was a member from 1964 to 1974 of Archizoom Associati, the first internationally known avant-garde group. Co-founder of Domus Academy, the first international postgraduate school of design, he was awarded the Rolf Schock Prize for Visual Arts in 2018 by the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. Many times his history has been intertwined with that of Triennale Milano. President Stefano Boeri, the Board of Directors, Director General Carla Morogallo and the Scientific Committee of Triennale Milano remember him. “Andrea Branzi has left us. A giant of radical thinking about human spaces, a sophisticated historian of Italian design, a visionary designer capable of inhabiting other universes and parallel worlds with irony. He gives us a powerful and generative legacy of works and texts-and a film produced a year ago by Triennale that to all intents and purposes is his intellectual testament,” said President Stefano Boeri. Exhibitions curated by Branzi for Triennale include: Italian Design 1964-1972. From Planning to Complexity and Italian Design 1973-1990. A Museum of Italian Design (both 1996), which represented an important moment of reflection preparatory to the establishment of the Museum of Italian Design, The Seven Obsessions of Italian Design (2007) and Serie Fuori Serie (2009). There have also been numerous contributions to the International Exposition, the most recent being the exhibitions Neo Presitoria - 100 verbs and La Metropoli Multietnica on the occasion of the 21st edition in 2016.

On the occasion of the 23rd International Exhibition a year ago, Triennale produced and presented the medium-length film Andrea Branzi. Exhibition in the form of prose, which traces the intellectual endeavors of some 70 years of the career of a figure who was able to anticipate and interpret important social and cultural transformations.
