Forli, the great exhibition on art and fashion at the San Domenico Museums reopens its doors in total safety

After the calamitous events that hit the Romagna region, the major exhibition at the San Domenico Museums in Forlì dedicated to the relationship between art and fashion reopens its doors. It can be visited until July 2, 2023.

Running until July 2, 2023 in the spaces of the San Domenico Museums in Forlì is the exhibition The Art of Fashion. The Age of Dreams and Revolutions 1789 - 1968, conceived and realized by the Fondazione Cassa dei Risparmi di Forlì in collaboration with the Municipality of Forlì, and curated by Cristina Acidini, Enrico Colle, Fabiana Giacomotti and Fernando Mazzocca. The exhibition is the result of the work of the scientific committee chaired ad honorem by Antonio Paolucci and composed of Marco Antonio Bazzocchi, Silvia Casagrande, Simona Di Marco, Fabriano Fabbri, Mario Finazzi, Gioia Mori, Francesco Parisi, Paola Refice, Giorgio Restelli, Stefania Ricci, Ines Richter, Chiara Squarcina, and Ulisse Tramonti.

After the calamitous events that hit the Romagna region, it is a difficult time for these lands, everyone is working hard to bring normality back to the region. Therefore, after a few inevitable days of closure, in order to secure the exhibition and the museum that houses it, and above all to give the right support to the city, the exhibition has reopened its doors in total safety. With the road system reactivated, Forli can be reached as before.

The exhibition is dedicated to the relationship between art and fashion, from the Ancien Régime to the second half of the 20th century. That between art and fashion is a relationship that has always been characterized by mutual influences, in a play of parts that makes art the mirror of society and fashion, the expression of its symbolic reality, the sign of cultural and social change throughout history. From the end of the 19th century and throughout the 20th century, the relationship between art and fashion became more intense: artists designed clothes and created the communication of fashion, fashion designers collected works of art and made them the object of inspiration or imitation for their creations.

About three hundred works including paintings, sculptures, period and contemporary clothes are on display at the San Domenico Museums, in an exhibition that aims to place in dialogue the great art of artists such as Balla, Boldini, Canova, De Chirico, Fontana, Hayez, Matisse, Mondrian, Picasso, and Tintoretto, with the great fashion of Armani, Balestra, Chanel, Capucci, Dior, Ferré, Fortuny, Valentino, and Versace. Paintings by masters from the 18th century to the 20th century accompany a parade of gowns ranging from crinolines to futurist vests, from grand evening trains to 1960s geometries.

The exhibition project brings masterpieces from leading national and international institutions, such as the Fondazione Musei Civici in Venice, the Belvedere in Vienna, the Uffizi Galleries in Florence, the Galleria Nazionale d’Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome, the Klimt Foundation in Vienna, the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire in Geneva, the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, the Stibbert Museum in Florence, the Pinacoteca Agnelli in Turin, and the Raccolte Storiche di Palazzo Morando Milan, to name but a few.

The exhibition also confirms the valuable collaboration between the Fondazione CR Forlì and Mediafriends, the non-profit association of Mediaset, Mondadori and Medusa, in the name of art and solidarity: part of the entrance fee will be donated to support the “Scuola di Vita” project aimed at girls and boys who have not yet found a path in life or who are experiencing a stalemate for various reasons, such as school failures, wrong life choices or complicated family contexts.
