Today in Paris, at the historic headquarters of the French Ministry of Culture, MiBACT Minister Dario Franceschini and the Minister of Culture of the Republic of France, Franck Riester, signed an Italy-France Memorandum of Partnership for the loan of Leonardo’s works to the Louvre in 2019 and Raphael’s works to the Scuderie del Quirinale in 2020.

As for Leonardo da Vinci, the loans covered by the Memorandum of Understanding are theVitruvian Man from the Accademia Gallery in Venice, the copy of Leda (inv.1890, no.9953), the copy of The Battle of Anghiari (inv.1890, no.5376), the Landscape Study (inv.8P), the Study for the Adoration of the Magi (inv.436 E), the Drapery Study (inv.433 E) and the Drapery Study (inv.420 E) from the Uffizi Galleries.

As for Raphael, the loans objects of the Memorandum of Understanding, are the Portrait of Baldassarre Castiglione, the Self-portrait with a Friend, the Study for Saint Catherine of Alexandria (inv.3871), the Study for Seated Girl (inv.3862), the Study for St. John and Julius II (recto) and Study for the Mass at Bolsena (verso) (inv.3866), the Study for Seated Pope (inv.4304) and the Study for the Battle of Constantine against Maxentius (inv.3872), all from the Louvre Museum.

The other works lent to the Louvre Museum by the Italian State Museums, but not the subject of the Memorandum of Understanding, will be Leonardo da Vinci’s The Scapiliata, Andrea del Verrocchio’s Incredulity of St. Thomas, Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio’s Portrait of a Young Man, the Study for the Battle of Anghiari (inv.215), the Study for the Battle of Anghiari (inv.215A) and the Study for the Battle of Anghiari (inv.216) all three from the Accademia Gallery in Venice, the Study for St. Anne, the Virgin and Child (inv.230) and the Study for St. Anne, the Virgin and Child (inv.257), made by Leonardo da Vinci from the Accademia Gallery in Venice. And also by Leonardo, the Study for an Adoration (inv.256) from the Galleria dell’Accademia in Venice, while from the Royal Museums in Turin the Portrait of a Maiden, a presumed study of the angel from the Virgin of the Rocks (inv.15572), Studies of Proportions of the Face and Eye (inv.15574 and 15576), Three Views of a Bearded Head (inv.15573) and Nudes for the Battle of Anghiari (inv.15577).
