Hermès launches a restoration project that will involve many Italian cities. It starts in Padua

Hermès Italia has launched the Grand Tour degli Affreschi restoration project that will involve many Italian cities. The first city involved was Padua with the restoration of a fresco by Jacopo da Montagnana in the sottoportici of Palazzo Angeli, in Prato della Valle

The Grand Tour degli Affreschi restoration project undertaken by Hermès Italia, which will involve many Italian cities, kicked off in Padua. In collaboration with Fondaco Italia and the cultural association Spirito Nuovo, the focus was on the porticoes of Palazzo Angeli, in Prato della Valle. Hermès in fact sponsored the restoration of the 15th-century fresco depicting theAnnunciation of the Virgin Mary with the Archangel Gabriel created by Jacopo da Montagnana, among the greatest painters of the time. The restoration work began on October 18, 2021 and will be completed on December 30, 2021.

The Grand Tour will continue in Naples in 2022 and Rome in 2023 and also includes other Italian cities.

"With the Grand Tour of the Frescoes," said Francesca di Carrobio, ad of Hermès Italy and Greece, “we want to stimulate awareness of being part of an economy of beauty. Hermès Italia feels the need for an action that aims to create a new active and concrete social responsibility on the part of citizens, and therefore of the company. We want to be leading actors in targeted and highly formative actions that educate to an openness to the world, to the passing on of manual skills and expertise.”

“I thank Hermès for this intervention, which recovers an important work of art in a place, Prato della Valle, that since its conception and realization has always seen companies and individual patrons committed to art and culture,” said City of Padua Culture Councillor Andrea Colasio. “This restoration reinforces the sense of Padua as ’Urbs Picta’ with only in relation to the 14th-century frescoes painted indoors, but also those painted on the exterior facades of the city’s buildings. It is pleasing to see how the sensitive and attentive business world has understood that art is an irreplaceable inspirational element of its action and as such should be cared for and supported.”

"We chose the fresco because it is very close to the theme ofillustration, so dear to Hermès,“ concluded Francesca di Carrobio. ”Our silk bobs tell a story and represent their era, just like the frescoes."

Hermès’ goal is not only to restore, but also to educate. In fact, the project will be part of a larger beauty education program involving the entire Maison.
