Inaugurated the third edition of the Museum of Jewellery in Vicenza

Inaugurated the third edition of the Vicenza Jewelry Museum. The new collection will be on view until the end of 2020.

Inaugurated the third edition of the Jewel Museum, an exhibition space in Vicenza ’s Basilica Palladiana that has become an international jewelry landmark. It is the first jewelry museum in Italy and one of the few in the world.

“The Jewelry Museum is a worldwide unicum that has its origins and beating heart in the Berici area. Italian Exhibition Group, thanks to its recognized leadership position in the sector, is proud to contribute to the enhancement and dissemination of jewelry tradition and culture - particularly of this historic district - in the world,” said Marco Carniello, Director of IEG’s Jewellery and Fashion Division.

Alba Cappellieri, Director of the Museum, said “The Jewelry Museum contributes to making Vicenza one of the world capitals of jewelry. This new edition will give visitors the opportunity to admire unique and extraordinary jewelry from the most exclusive collections, selected by internationally renowned curators according to different conceptions, values and meanings of jewelry. The exhibition itinerary is a journey through the centuries that allows visitors to discover works of art from the past and contemporary jewelry that interweave art, fashion, design and high jewelry.”

“The history of Vicenza is closely linked to the history of jewelry and goldsmithing; this is why the Jewelry Museum could only find its home in the Basilica Palladiana, a symbol of the city and the architectural heritage that Andrea Palladio left us. We have inaugurated a new collection, proving that it is a winning idea not only to dedicate a permanent exhibition space to jewelry, unique in the world for its peculiarities, but also to include it in the cultural circuit of Vicenza, for a synergy that we hope will grow closer and closer,” added Deputy Mayor Matteo Tosetto.

The new collection will be open to visitors until the end of 2020 and displays 310 unique jewels, masterpieces of inestimable value. Nine internationally renowned curators were in charge of the new edition: each gave their own interpretation of jewelry in their respective thematic rooms. Pascale Lepeu, director of the Cartier collection, narrated in the SYMBOL ROOM the symbolic power of ornaments; Cristina Boschetti, an archaeologist and expert on artistic productions of the Hellenistic and Roman Mediterranean, brought to the MAGIC ROOM precious items that allude to higher forces and timeless values; Massimo Vidale, professor of archaeology at theUniversity of Padua, focused the visitor’s attention on the communicative function of jewelry in the FUNCTION ROOM; Patrizia di Carrobbio, an expert on diamonds in New York, was entrusted with the BEAUTY ROOM, where high jewelry mixes with fashion jewelry; Marie-José van den Hout the ART ROOM, which houses pieces resulting from the experimentation of international artists; Chichi Meroni, creative soul of the Arabesque Cult Store in Milan, curated the FASHION ROOM, dedicated to bijoux created between the 1920s and the 1980s; the DESIGN ROOM, dedicated to “designers without design,” was curated by Alba Cappellieri herself, and is dedicated to goldsmith designers and their experiments; the ICONS ROOM is curated by Gabriele and Emanuele Pennisi, well-known antiquarian jewelers in Milan, and hosts icons of jewelry created between the 17th and 20th centuries; and finally the FUTURE ROOM, which anticipates the jewelry trends of tomorrow, by Portuguese designer Olga Noronha.
