Nearly 30,000 visitors for Quadrennial, first major free exhibition in Covid period

The Rome Quadrennial ended with 30,000 visitors: big numbers for the first major free exhibition in the Covid period.

The 2020-2021 edition of the Rome Quadrennial closed the day before yesterday, Sunday, July 18, with important numbers, also in view of the fact that the exhibition was the first major event complitely free of charge of the Covid period. Held at the Palazzo delle Esposizione and curated by Sarah Cosulic and Stefano Collicelli Cagol, the exhibition of contemporary Italian art, promoted and organized by Fondazione La Quadriennale di Roma and Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, ended with an average of 270.5 visitors per day, for a total of 28,132 admissions and 104 days of opening.

The exhibition opened on Oct. 29, 2020, and was suspended twice (Nov. 5 to Feb. 3 and March 13 to April 26): however, the suspensions were mitigated by three extensions that made it possible not only to make up for all the closed days, but to further extend the duration by a month over the original schedule to allow as many visitors as possible to attend. This was thanks to an important choral effort by the institutions involved and the continued support of main sponsor Eni and main partners GUCCI (which provided sponsorship so that everyone could enter for free) and Intesa Sanpaolo.

Important results were also achieved on the digital front. The Facebook page following had a +30% increase in interactions during the opening period of the exhibition, over 3 million unique users reached and over 2 million impressions to the posts published. The Instagram profile experienced exponential growth in followers, marking +300% in the past year (from 4,000 to over 13,000), with a total of over 2.5 million unique users reached and over 200,000 ’likes’ and comments. Numerous columns were offered during the opening of the exhibition, producing more than 250 contents including images, videos, texts and podcasts. Palazzo delle Esposizioni’s social media shared and gave dissemination to all Fuori - Quadriennale initiatives, contributing to the interactions of Quadriennale channels and to the dissemination of exhibition content. Also proposed a special 360° tour, created in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, which has always allowed and will continue in the future to allow users the virtual visit of the exhibition.

Relevant numbers that could provide indications for the next big events?
