Rome, four 17th century paintings found stolen from a hotel in 2001

Carabinieri from the Zagarolo(Rome) station, together with personnel from the antiques section of the Operational Department for the Protection of Cultural Heritage in Rome, found four stolen paintings in an abandoned farmhouse in the middle of the woods in Via Colle Gentile. These paintings, still in good condition, are paintings dating back to the 17th century, with a total value of about 200,000 euros and depicting religious scenes.

The paintings were stolen in 2001 by a gang of thugs who robbed a hotel in Rome’s Parioli district. However, there were five paintings stolen, so investigations are ongoing to find the fifth. Now the paintings have been seized, and technical investigations will be carried out by specialized personnel from the Antiques Section of the Carabinieri Tutela Patrimonio Culturale Command in Rome.
