Rome MIC Card free to those who turn 18 in 2024 and live in the capital: free museums for a year and other discounts

One year of free access to Roma Capitale museums and other benefits for young Rome residents who have come of age or will come of age in 2024: they can get the Roma MIC Card for free.

One year of free access to the museums of Roma Capitale for young residents of Rome who have come of age or will come of age in 2024: the Capitoline Council has in fact approved a resolution to give all Rome residents who turn 18 in 2024 the Roma MIC Card, the card that allows free entry to all museums and archaeological and monumental areas managed by the Capitoline Cultural Heritage Superintendency and also allows for concessions and discounts at exhibitions, cafeterias and museum bookstores.

The Card is aimed at a potential audience of 41 thousand children and will be valid for 12 months from the moment of activation. In the coming weeks at https://miccard.roma.it/ or through the MIC Card app, it will be possible to activate the digital Roma Mic Card by entering the tax code. A communication campaign aimed at 18-year-olds will start at the same time, and they will also receive a letter from Mayor Roberto Gualtieri containing a QR Code that will guide them through the procedures to follow to obtain the card. Soon, the service will be made available to municipalities in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in order to expand free access to 18-year-olds residing in the metropolitan area.

The goal of the initiative is to offer Rome’s younger generations a new facility, in line with what has been done with Metrebus under 19, that incentivizes them to admire and learn about the Capitoline cultural heritage, in order to become an increasingly active part of the city’s cultural life.

“Young people are the future of our city and we are investing in them,” said Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri. “We are putting them at the center of all our policies: from public transportation, where we have launched a free measure for all boys and girls under 19, to the opening of new study rooms. Today, with this new measure, we are bringing young Romans even closer to culture by guaranteeing a free MIC Card to all of them for an entire year.”

“We want to give young people entering adulthood a welcome, offering them a year of totally free and unlimited access to the museum, archaeological and monumental heritage of Roma Capitale,” added Capitoline Councillor for Culture Miguel Gotor. “In our opinion this is an excellent way to promote increasingly widespread access to culture, while stimulating in our young people a sense of belonging to the community in which they live and which we want them to feel more and more like their own.”
