The Stefano Arienti Archive Opens in Milan; New Website and Catalog of Works Now Online

Founded in Milan in January 2026, the Associazione Archivio Stefano Arienti E.T.S. began its work of researching, preserving, and cataloging the artist’s body of work. Its first public project is the website www.stefanoarienti.it, which went live on June 2, 2026.

The Stefano Arienti Archive Association (E.T.S.) was founded in Milan in January 2026 with the goal of preserving, studying, promoting, and disseminating knowledge of Stefano Arienti’s work. The organization’s first public project is the new website www.stefanoarienti.it, online since June 2, 2026, designed as a research and reference tool for scholars, institutions, collectors, and the general public.

The Association is headquartered in Milan at Via Canelli 25, accessible by appointment, and is a nonprofit organization. Its activities include archiving and cataloging the artist’s works, preserving and managing the documentary archive—comprising both printed and digital materials collected over more than forty years of activity—and promoting initiatives dedicated to furthering research on Arienti.

The Association’s leadership includes Stefano Arienti as president, Gianni Rosei as vice president, and Ilaria Bernardi as director. The Association also relies on a Steering Committee composed of Chiara Bertola, Simone Ciglia, Danna Olgiati, Giorgio Spanu, and Angela Vettese. Legal support is provided by attorney Maria Grazia Longoni Palmigiano of LCA Studio Legale, head of the art law department, who also oversaw the Association’s incorporation.

The digital platform is structured as an online archive with a scientific purpose. The website collects materials, texts, and documents related to the artist’s work, with the aim of conveying the complexity of his artistic journey through bibliographic and critical analysis. The project stems from a vision strongly championed and guided by the artist at every stage, with formal and conceptual choices that define its structure.

Among its defining features is the decision to prioritize textual content over visual imagery. The graphic design is also minimalist and unspectacular, with a deliberate reference to early web interfaces, offering a critical perspective on current forms of digital communication.

The site’s structure is divided into four main sections: The Artist, The Works, The Artist’s Words, and The Critical Bibliography. The “The Artist” section includes a brief biography and a list of exhibitions and publications organized by category. “The Works” offers a general overview of the artist’s practice, with in-depth analyses of the main areas of research and a typological classification of the work, accompanied by two previously unpublished essays by Ilaria Bernardi dedicated to drawing and photography.

The “The Artist’s Words” section includes excerpts from writings and interviews organized by decade, while “Critical Bibliography” offers an overview of the literature on the artist through a selection of texts from catalogs, journals, and specialized publications.

The curatorial and scholarly work was coordinated by Ilaria Bernardi, who oversaw the reconstruction of the complete bibliography and the organization of the materials. The sections dedicated to the writings and the bibliography are the result of an extensive process of collecting and selecting texts, organized according to chronological and, in some cases, narrative criteria, with the aim of tracing the evolution of the artist’s thought. The omission of certain materials was necessary to ensure editorial coherence and to structure the reading experience.

A further outcome of the research is the classification of the works according to recurring methods in Arienti’s practice. The project proposes a systematization based not on chronological or thematic criteria, but on the processes and gestures that run through his entire artistic career, introducing a new interpretive framework.

In parallel with the digital initiative, the Association has also begun a critical cataloging of the artist’s works. In this context, collectors, institutions, and individuals in possession of works by Arienti are invited to report them by writing to archivio@stefanoarienti.it, in order to contribute to the construction of the archive’s comprehensive corpus.

Statements

“Given the sheer number of images of my works and exhibitions that anyone can easily find online today,” says Stefano Arienti, “I want my website to consist primarily of text, keeping illustrations to a minimum, in order to provide an exclusively critical analysis of my work. Furthermore, as I am Italian and aware that online translations are now available in all languages, I wish for my website to be initially in Italian only.”

“The extensive research that went into www.stefanoarienti.it began in 2023 and involved sifting through, studying, and reorganizing the entire collection of documents and bibliography preserved in the Archive,” says Ilaria Bernardi. “At the same time, the foundations were laid and the guidelines for the Association were defined. The establishment of the Stefano Arienti Archive Association (E.T.S.) and the creation of the website—now completed—do not represent a point of arrival, but rather the public launch of a structured, methodical project destined to grow over the years, with the goal of creating a stable resource for the study, research, and promotion of Stefano Arienti’s work. Among the Association’s main objectives are, in fact, the systematic cataloging of the artist’s works, the promotion of studies and research, as well as the production of publications and exhibition projects in Italy and abroad.”
