Borghi più belli d'Italia, six new villages join the association

Six new villages are added to Italy's Most Beautiful Villages. These include Barolo, Caldes and Maratea.

Six new villages enter The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy. This was decided by the Board of Directors on the proposal of the Scientific Committee. They are Caldes (Trento), Fontainemore (Aosta), Barolo (Cuneo), Clusone (Bergamo), Nemi (Rome), and Maratea (Potenza).

With these new additions, the Association strengthens its presence in the country reaching 354 member villages, all of which have been positively evaluated after the certification process, which has 72 parameters and is itself ISO9001 certified. More than nine hundred municipalities have applied to be evaluated for admission to I Borghi più belli d’Italia. The waiting list is still is quite long, demonstrating the interest of municipalities (under 15,000 inhabitants in the entire municipality and no more than 2,000 in the borough) in the Association.

“We warmly welcome the newcomer villages,” says Fiorello Primi, president of I Borghi più belli d’Italia, “congratulating them on having passed the evaluation process for admission to our Association, which, more and more and better, wants to represent an advanced tip of the system of the Borghi in Italy. A system and a network that, also as a result of the effects of the pandemic, has assumed primary importance for a more economically, environmentally and socially sustainable development of our country. There are already established villages that bring additional notoriety to the Association and others that, while equally fascinating and rich in artistic and cultural treasures, are less well known and need the Association’s tow to make themselves known and appreciated. This is the advantage that our network offers, and this is why we are once again asking the national and regional governments for special attention and a far-sighted strategy so that in these fundamental territorial realities, the true backbone of Italy, communities can continue to live and protect the tangible and intangible heritage of which they are custodians.”
