On the occasion of International Museum Day 2025, scheduled for Sunday, May 18, UniCredit Art Collection and Haltadefinizione - tech company of Gruppo Panini Cultura - present a new project that combines digital innovation and artistic enhancement. The initiative, promoted and coordinated by the Metropolitan City of Bologna together with the Settore Musei Civici Bologna, involves one of the most representative masterpieces of the city’s artistic heritage.
It involves the ultra-high-definition digitization of The Stories of the Founding of Rome, the great cycle of frescoes created by the Carracci - Ludovico, Annibale and Agostino - between 1589 and 1592, located on the piano nobile of Palazzo Magnani, the historic headquarters of UniCredit in Bologna. the cycle of frescoes was digitally acquired through gigapixel technology, thanks to an accurate photographic campaign that allowed the entire painted surface to be mapped. To complete the work, more than 7,300 shots were taken, flanked by 360-degree panoramic shots of the Carracci Hall. After the positive experience in 2024 with Dosso Dossi’s The Awakening of Venus - also belonging to the UniCredit Art Collection and housed in the Quadreria of Palazzo Magnani - the collaboration with Haltadefinizione continues to make works of art of exceptional value accessible to the public through advanced digital tools.
On May 18, a multimedia totem will be installed in the hall where the original frescoes are located, offering visitors an immersive and interactive experience. Thanks to digitization, it will be possible to virtually “enter” inside the Carracci’s pictorial narrative, exploring each scene in detail and accessing in-depth art historical content in real time.
Throughout the day, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., it will also be possible to visit the entire historic building, including the Quadreria, which houses works of art from the 16th to 20th centuries.
