The most recent investigations at the archaeological site of Finziade, in Licata, Sicily, conducted under the auspices of the Archaeological Park of the Valley of the Temples and the CNR - ISPC of Catania, under the scientific direction of Maria Concetta Parello (Park) and Alessio Toscano Raffa (CNR), and the technical direction of Rosario Callea (Park), have ended with important results. Giving notice of the findings is the same Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the Temples through its social channels.
The newly investigated area, called "house 19," has returned extraordinarily preserved domestic environments, offering a unique glimpse into the daily life of the ancient city. The structures, which remained sealed for more than two thousand years, tell of a domestic and productive world of great wealth.
Among the most significant finds is a craft workshop complete with some 40 dies used for the production of oil lamps and votive figurines, along with ovens, tanks and workshops. Alongside, a domestic sacellum with statuettes and ritual objects, which have remained miraculously intact-a context that offers new keys to interpretation for private religiosity and devotional practices in Hellenistic-Roman Finthiades.
The importance of the discovery goes beyond the archaeological datum. It is the fruit of a virtuous path between scientific research, institutions, the local community and the younger generation, which is helping to restore an exceptional cultural heritage to Licata. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the territory and its extraordinary tourist and cultural potential.
A new piece is thus added to the history of ancient Finziade, confirming it as one of the most promising research sites in the southern area of Sicily.
